Parrot and Pet Supplies.ca, is a sister company to CRAFTED TREE PRODUCTS. We are a family owned business located in Iona Station, Ontario, Canada. Because of the high demand in pet products, we have decided to create a company that specifically builds pet products. Crafted Tree Products will oversee our custom handmade furniture products and will eventually be available once we complete our pet product website.

CRAFTED TREE PRODUCTS originally started in 2008 hand crafting wood furniture from applewood. Our idea to start building perch stands came about from having our own Parrot. We started noticing problems, like consistent squawking and not being as active as per usual, but we were not aware of the cause. This is where we decided to educate ourselves in finding out what health problems parrots can have when not living in there natural environment. We discovered among many other problems, that perches made from dowels was an issue when it came to the diameter size being too uniformed. We strongly recommend not using dowels, plastic(PVC), or steel.

Think of you, yourself, gripping the same thing all day, every single day, and it has the same diameter. You are definitely going to experience discomfort, and possibly become susceptible to arthritis. Birds will experience the same problems, along with “Bumblefoot” infection, which we will discuss more about on our “Suggested Tips for Better Health” page. Natural branches are not uniformed like dowels. This is where your bird gets its exercise from, by constantly moving about on a perch that is not uniformed. Your bird flexes their feet to a different grip and therefore causing him/her to stretch at different positions. Of course there is such a thing as having too small or too large of a diameter, which is why we have put together a Bird Size “PERCH DIAMETER CHART” here, and on each product of our shop page, suggesting the different sizes of perches for different sizes of birds. Having more than one perch available encourages your bird to move around, giving your bird the exercise that their feet need, and is very beneficial, like when living in their natural environment!
